Welcome to #WeAreGreenKey, where we shine a spotlight on our powerhouse recruiting team.

We met up with Zach Miller, Technical Recruiter at Green Key on the Information Technology team. Having graduated from the University of Wisconsin in the middle of the Covid pandemic, he was still unsure where he wanted to take his career. Shortly into his recruiting experience, he knew this was where he belonged. His time at Green Key has solidified his decision to stick to tech recruiting and he plans to grow his personal brand here as much as he can.

How did you first get started in recruiting?

I graduated college at the peak of the pandemic and kept getting LinkedIn messages from people who worked in recruiting. I took a couple calls to see if it would be a good fit and ended up working at another staffing agency for about a year. I discovered I really enjoyed the process of recruiting and came to Green Key in August of this year.

Are there any interesting trends in IT recruiting right now?

Candidates are really considering the gravity of “impactful” work. Even if it’s the first time I’m connecting with someone, they like to understand the way their work will impact both the company and their specific values. For instance, they might ask how their development skills in a role will transend in the long run. Because of this, we’ve had to set up additional meetings with clients to dive deeper into their job descriptions and how they’ll translate to the candidates.

What keeps you coming back to recruiting every day?

Building trust relationship with my candidates and being able to let them know that I’m here to help. I’m always trying to prove that I’m a good resource for them, where it’s right now or in the future.

What makes the IT team successful?

Everyone on the team knows what they’re good at and we blend really well together that way. Tech is such a broad industry, so being able to specialize in certain spots allows us to deliver the best work to our clients. We also provide continuous and consistent feedback to each other. It’s not just direct leads giving advice and direction; we’re all really involved in each other’s work.

What are your goals in the new year?

I want to keep learning and familiarizing myself with the industry, including trends outside of data, which is my specialty. I hope to continue building my pipeline here at Green Key and develop my own brand in tech.

Honoring Dr. King By a Day of Service

When Martin Luther King Jr. Day was first declared a national holiday, celebrations were small and quiet affairs. Today, there are parades in cities from coast-to-coast; financial markets and banks are closed; government workers nationally and in many states have the day off; and it is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service.

Calling it a “day on, not a day off,” the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) promotes volunteerism and community projects as a way of honoring Dr. King. Working with The King Center in Atlanta, the CNCS annually awards grants to organizations to develop and coordinate service projects on the MLK Day of Service.

Among the projects taking place today are a 50-volunteer effort to build and equip “little libraries” in Louisiana, and 250-volunteer effort in Englewood, NJ to prepare 2,000 kid-friendly, healthy and easy-to-prepare snack food packages. In New York City, more than 500 volunteers are expected to participate in a series of service projects to support low-income, needy children, seniors and families.

“The most successful projects connect to the life and teaching of Dr. King, meet a pressing community need, and include time to reflect on his teachings,” the CNCS explains, quoting Dr. King who said, “Everyone can be great because everybody can serve.”

To Tech Pros Everywhere: We Are Grateful!

You’re reading this because all over the world IT professionals are at work keeping the internet’s vast array of routers, servers, switches and other equipment functioning.

Unless you work for a telecom or one of the organizations that plays a role in keeping the internet operating, chances are you’ll never meet these network engineers and system administrators.

But you know the guy or gal who fixes your computer problems when you call. Even if you’ve never met them in person, you’ve come to rely on them to be there when you say “Help!”

These are the unsung tech heroes we recognize today on IT Professionals Day. And never before have we all had so much to thank them for.

When the COVID pandemic closed offices across the world, IT professionals made it possible for employees to work from home.

Their round the clock work keeps us in touch with friends and family, enables students to attend class remotely, and makes it possible for us to consult a doctor by video from home.

As SolarWinds, founder of National IT Pro Day in 2015, says, “The success of organizations during the reality of an unprecedented global pandemic is due in large part to IT pros’ preparedness and ability to adapt and manage through substantial change. We didn’t know it at the time, but all your training, ideas, and skillsets were leading up to this year’s events, which saw entire organizations rely on IT teams to keep their business up and running.”

We at Green Key Resources join with the millions of others in saying thank you to all IT professionals. We are grateful for everything you do. And, to quote SolarWinds, “If we’ve learn anything from our IT pros this year, it’s they’re ready, willing, and able to tackle any challenge head-on.”
